This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) made history by admitting 167 new students for the academic year, marking the largest intake in the faculty’s history. These students were accepted through three admission pathways: the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), and the UGM Independent Selection.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., expressed pride in this achievement. “Out of the 167 new students, all of them chose the Faculty of Philosophy as their first choice. This indicates that there is a high level of interest and recognition among young people towards philosophy, and the Faculty of Philosophy UGM has become the preferred destination for those serious about pursuing philosophical studies,” she said.

The majority of these new students are recipients of scholarships or subsidies for their Single Tuition Fee (UKT), with amounts ranging from 25%, 50%, 75%, to 100%. A total of 95 students, or about 57% of the new intake, received UKT subsidies, while 14% of them were recipients of the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) Kuliah scholarship.

The Dean emphasized the Faculty’s commitment to providing broad access to education for all layers of society, including those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “We always keep our doors open to Indonesian youth from various economic backgrounds to receive quality education at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM,” she stressed.

Additionally, this year the Faculty of Philosophy UGM also continued to provide KAGAMA scholarships and KAGAMA Philosophy scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to students with excellent academic achievements and a strong commitment to advancing philosophical knowledge. The provision of these scholarships is part of the Faculty’s efforts to support students in achieving academic success without financial burdens, enabling them to focus on their education.

With these subsidies and scholarships, the Faculty of Philosophy UGM hopes to produce graduates who not only have a deep understanding of philosophy but also possess a commitment to making a positive contribution to society and the nation.
