As part of its efforts to raise awareness and understanding regarding the prevention and handling of sexual violence within Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS UGM) organized the “Satgas PPKS Goes to Faculty” event with the theme “Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence on Campus Based on Health Promotion (HPU).” This event was held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Persatuan Room, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Philosophy, UGM.

The socialization event was attended by various members of the Faculty of Philosophy academic community, including students, educational staff, and faculty members. Participants were encouraged to gain a deeper understanding of the prevention and handling of sexual violence, as well as the importance of creating a campus environment that is safe and free from violence.

Prof. Dra. Raden Ajeng Yayi Suryo Prabandari, M.Si., Ph.D., Head of Satgas PPKS UGM, and Dr. Ratna Noviani, M.Si. (Graduate School & Satgas PPKS UGM team) served as speakers during the event. During the session, Dr. Ratna emphasized the importance of collective commitment in addressing the issue of sexual violence on campus. “Say no to discrimination, in any form. This is our shared responsibility,” Dr. Ratna firmly stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Iva Ariani, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni at the Faculty of Philosophy, UGM, expressed appreciation for the event. “Events like this provide comprehensive insights and understanding of sexual violence issues, so that we can all understand the boundaries, reporting mechanisms, and the protection that needs to be provided. We hope that everyone can be at the forefront of preventing sexual violence,” Dr. Iva said.

Dr. Iva also expressed her hope that this event would have a significant impact, leading to a situation where there is no sexual violence at the Faculty of Philosophy because all members of the academic community understand and know the boundaries and risks involved. “Thank you to the Satgas team for their commitment to sharing knowledge. I hope the impact will be profound moving forward,” she added.

The Satgas PPKS Goes to Faculty event is part of an effort to enhance understanding of the prevention and handling of sexual violence among UGM’s academic community, especially at the faculty and unit levels. With the active participation of all parties, it is hoped that a safer and more comfortable environment can be created for the entire academic community, and that cases of sexual violence on campus can be reduced.

This event is expected not only to raise awareness of sexual violence prevention but also to educate about the importance of collective consciousness in creating a campus free from all forms of violence.
