The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again hosted an academic visit from a high school. This time, 250 students and 20 accompanying teachers from SMA Negeri 21 Bandung City had the opportunity to learn more about UGM and the Faculty of Philosophy during a discussion session held at the 1st Floor Selasar on Wednesday, January 22.
The event featured speaker Prof. Mukhtasar Syamsuddin, M.Hum., Ph.D of Arts, who delivered an engaging presentation about the history of UGM, its academic excellence, and the various student admission pathways available. He explained that UGM, as the oldest national university in Indonesia, has become a center for the development of knowledge that has made significant contributions across various fields, including philosophy.
In the following session, participants were invited to delve deeper into the world of philosophy. Prof. Mukhtasar explained that students at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM are equipped with the skills to analyze fundamental issues in ethics, logic, metaphysics, and philosophy of science and technology. This expertise makes philosophy graduates flexible in the workforce, with career opportunities ranging from academics, policy consultants, data analysts, journalists, to roles in business and the creative industries.
The accompanying teachers expressed their appreciation for this valuable opportunity. They hope that this visit will inspire the students to learn more about higher education and explore various fields of study they can choose in the future. The event concluded with a group photo and the exchange of souvenirs as a symbol of friendship between the Faculty of Philosophy UGM and SMA Negeri 21 Bandung City.
