A total of 182 students and 22 teachers from SMK Jakarta 1 visited the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Wednesday, January 22, to learn more about the academic world and philosophical thought. The event took place in the 3rd Floor Persatuan Room, featuring speaker Dr. M. Rodinal Khair Khasri, S.Fil., M.Phil., who provided an insightful presentation on UGM and the role of philosophy in various aspects of life.
In the first session, Dr. Rodinal explained the history of UGM as one of the oldest and largest universities in Indonesia, which has produced many national leaders. He also highlighted UGM’s strengths as an educational institution that continues to evolve, offering various outstanding programs and student admission pathways available to prospective students across Indonesia. Moving to the second session, students were introduced to the Faculty of Philosophy at UGM, including the fields of study offered and the benefits of studying philosophy in everyday life and the professional world.
The interactive Q&A session saw enthusiastic participation from both students and teachers, who posed questions about the role of philosophy in the modern world, the challenges philosophy graduates face in the workforce, and how UGM shapes the character of its graduates. The principal of SMK Jakarta 1, Lukman Furqon, shared his thoughts on the event. “I hope this activity will be beneficial for the students. UGM is one of the largest and most renowned universities, not only in Indonesia but also worldwide. UGM has become one of the main goals for Indonesian students, and if they have the intention and effort, nothing is impossible to gain admission to UGM. Many national leaders have emerged from UGM.”
The visit concluded with a group photo session and the exchange of souvenirs as a token of appreciation, symbolizing the hope for continued cooperation between the Faculty of Philosophy UGM and SMK Jakarta 1 in the future. The Faculty of Philosophy UGM remains committed to providing opportunities for young people to explore the academic world and develop critical thinking skills that will serve them in the future.
