Faculty of Philosophy UGM had the honor to hold the 32nd Conference of the Association of Indonesian Ethics Lecturers (HIDESI) on July 15-16, 2022. The event was themed “Ethics and Respect for Life: Ethical Reflections on Pandemics, War, and Human Crisis” This study aims to explore and elaborate basic ideas related to ethical problems and principles that arise as a result of pandemics and wars. The conference, which was held offline and online, was attended by more than 30 ethics lecturers from all over Indonesia.
Head of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih opened the conference with the question “Can we still respect other organisms without sacrificing our own lives? If possible, how and what ethical principles should be based on?”. He also hoped that the conference could produce extract formulations from our thoughts that could contribute to humanity. The conference was started by the first speaker Prof.Dr. Koentjoro with the theme “Ethics of Life of Ki Ageng Suryomataram”. After the coffee break, the event continued with the speaker Prof. Dr. Alois Agus Nugroho and Dr. Peter Johannes Manoppo with moderator Dr. Iva Ariani. The first day’s agenda ended with a Welcome Party accompanied by gamelan music by KARAFI while eating fried rice and bakmi godhog provided by the committee.
The presentation of the second day’s paper was moderated by Sri Yulita Pramulia Panani, S.Fil, M.Phil. with five presenters. The first speaker is Fr. Agustinus Riyadi with the title “Ethical Reflection on Robots” and continued by Prof. Ngadisah with the theme “Ethical Dilemma of Public Officials in Decision Making in Handling Covid-19 in Indonesia”. Ir. Laurentius Noer Andoyo, M.T. as the third speaker explained about “Utilizing Era Society 5.0 for the development of World Peace and Safety” while Drs. Slamet Subekti, M. Hum. delivered material on “War Ethics and the Virtue of Pancasila for World Peace: Responding to the Russo-Ukrainian War”. The last speaker was the Chairman of Hidesi, Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi with the title “Pandemic and Tragedy of War: Double Pairs for the Collapse of Humanity” and at the same time closed the 32nd Hidesi Conference.
