The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again held a graduation ceremony in celebration of the Undergraduate Graduation for the Second Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year on Wednesday (February 26) at the Persatuan Meeting Room. In this period, the Faculty of Philosophy successfully graduated 37 students who have completed their studies.
In her speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., expressed her pride in the graduates who have successfully completed their academic journey.
“Our students have given their utmost effort to complete their studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in the best and most honorable way. Parents have also provided their full support to ensure their learning process is successful. On behalf of the Faculty of Philosophy, I extend my deepest gratitude to the parents for their cooperation and hard work throughout their children’s studies,” said the Dean.
She emphasized that graduating from university marks a transition into a new phase of life. Graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy, she stated, have been trained to process information and respond to various complex situations. She assured that they are well-prepared to contribute to different fields and bring positive impact to society.
“From here, the next phase begins—returning to society and applying what has been learned. No matter which sector you choose, each is equally valuable and honorable. There is no profession that is superior or inferior. What matters most is to be beneficial to humanity,” she added.
The graduate with the highest GPA, Medaneo Wahyu Putra Wibowo, expressed his gratitude to the lecturers who had guided him over the past four years. He also shared his pride in being part of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
“Thank you to our lecturers who have patiently guided, directed, and supported us so that we could reach this day. When people say UGM is the university of the people, it is true, because a son of a food vendor and a mobile credit seller like me could graduate from UGM with honors,” he said.
He also highlighted the responsibility that Faculty of Philosophy alumni carry—to be bold in breaking boundaries and creating innovation.
“We return to our homes to answer the call of our ancestors—to build our villages and defend our nation. Build the community, build humanity, and build civilization, just as we have discussed in class,” he continued.
The graduation ceremony was filled with emotions and pride, marking a new journey for the graduates as they step into the professional and academic world.
A representative of the graduates’ parents, Dwi Puji Astuti, who is the mother of Medaneo, also expressed her gratitude to the Faculty of Philosophy, UGM, for the support and knowledge imparted to her son. She believed that the guidance he received would be more than enough to equip him for the future.
She also shared her impression of the Faculty of Philosophy, which she felt had treated students like family. She asked for blessings for the graduates as they embark on their new journey.
“During their studies, they lived far from us, but I personally felt at ease knowing that philosophy students were truly treated like children and younger siblings by their lecturers. My son often told me that he was frequently invited to chat, have coffee, and was even treated to meals. His academic advisor often talked to him about his dreams for the future,” said Dwi.
