The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the international organization Globethics have established a collaborative partnership to develop studies and research in ethics. This collaboration was formalized through the signing of a cooperation agreement by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Vice President of Globethics and founder of YADEMA, Dicky Sofjan, Ph.D.
The agreement encompasses a broad range of activities, including joint research projects, publications, short training programs, seminars, and public lectures. Beyond academic initiatives, the collaboration also extends to community engagement programs and student exchange opportunities, all of which are designed to strengthen the study and application of ethics.
Established in 2004 in Geneva, Switzerland, Globethics is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). As an independent, nonprofit entity, it operates under an international board and has regional centers across the globe. The organization is committed to building networks, fostering synergies, empowering individuals and institutions, and facilitating impactful collaborations in ethics research and advocacy, particularly in the field of leadership.
For the East Asia region, the Dharma Ethics Madani Foundation (YADEMA) serves as the regional partner of Globethics, carrying out its mission in the area. Following the agreement, the Faculty of Philosophy UGM and YADEMA will design a strategic program that will involve collaboration with both domestic and international partners.
Several key initiatives have been planned for 2025, including ethics courses, collaborative research on ethics as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the Executive Course on Ethics Leadership Initiative, and a webinar titled “The Future of Ethics: Global Technocracy in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence”. Moving forward into 2026, both institutions aim to establish scholarship programs for postgraduate students, host an international seminar, and launch additional projects to further advance ethics education and research.
