The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an orientation program for new Master’s and Doctoral students on Wednesday (5/2) in the Ketuhanan Meeting Room. In the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, the faculty welcomed 11 new students for the Master’s Program in Philosophy and 3 students for the Doctoral Program in Philosophy, who will commence their studies on February 17.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., warmly welcomed the new students and shared some words of encouragement during the orientation. “Wishing you all success in your graduate studies. Take it lightly, and with time, you will achieve your goals,” she said.
She also highlighted that all three study programs at the Faculty of Philosophy—undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral—have received the highest accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Additionally, the undergraduate program has already achieved international accreditation, and the faculty is now preparing to apply for international accreditation for its master’s and doctoral programs.
“For our graduate programs, we are now preparing for international accreditation following the success of our undergraduate program. Hopefully, with your presence, we can further strengthen these programs,” the Dean added.
She also encouraged the new students to support and motivate one another to ensure they all complete their studies successfully. “As one big family, we hope to support each other and work together to achieve our goals,” she concluded.
The orientation program was divided into three sessions. The first session covered UGM’s history and values, delivered by Dr. Heri Santoso, who introduced the university’s legacy, notable figures, and its contributions at the national level. The second session, presented by Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, focused on academic ethics, including plagiarism prevention.
In the final session, Dr. Ridwan Ahmad Sukri, Head of the Master’s Program, and Lailiy Muthmainnah, S.Fil., M.A., Head of the Doctoral Program, provided an overview of curriculum structure, study timelines, and graduation requirements. This information is expected to help students plan their academic journey effectively and complete each stage within the designated timeframe.
