The series of events celebrating the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy has begun. The chess competition, which for the first time this year is included as part of the Philosophy Sports Week, was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, at the Corridor of Building B, Faculty of Philosophy.

A total of 12 participants took part, consisting of 10 students and 2 administrative staff. They competed in a game that demands concentration and careful calculation. This event was not only a competition but also a means to strengthen relationships among different elements within the faculty.

The Sports Week is part of the 58th Anniversary celebration, which this year carries the theme “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized.” This theme emphasizes the importance of open access to knowledge and inclusive participation in academic spaces.

“The spirit of open science and knowledge justice is realized not only in scientific forums but also in spaces of togetherness such as this Sports Week,” said the Anniversary Committee Chair, Moch. Najib Yuliantoro, S.Fil., M.Phil.

By involving students, lecturers, and administrative staff—including permanent employees as well as outsourced and daily workers—Philosophy Sports Week reflects the spirit of openness and togetherness.

After chess, the Sports Week will continue with matches in three other sports: badminton on May 9 and 16, table tennis on May 9, 16, and 23, and volleyball starting on May 23.
