Cheers and applause filled the air during the badminton matches of the 2025 Philosophy Sports Week, held on May 9 and 16 at the Faculty of Philosophy sports field. This competition is part of the 58th Anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, themed “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized.”
A total of 21 pairs, both men’s doubles and mixed doubles, from all faculty elements—students, lecturers, and administrative staff—participated in the competition. A positive competitive atmosphere and a strong sense of togetherness were evident in every match.
The administrative staff pair Iqbal and Agus emerged as champions after defeating another administrative staff pair, Suhirmawan and Gloria, in the final match. The third-place winner was the student pair Steve and Corona, who won the playoff against fellow students.
“Through this activity, we aim to build a collaborative space involving all faculty members, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and strengthening social networks,” explained the Anniversary Committee Chair, Moch. Najib Yuliantoro, S.Fil., M.Phil.
Badminton is one of four sports contested in the 2025 Philosophy Sports Week, alongside chess, table tennis, and volleyball. The table tennis competition also began on May 9 and will hold its final match on May 23. On the same day, the volleyball tournament will start, featuring six teams—four student teams and two administrative staff teams.
