In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Ramadan reflection and iftar gathering on Thursday, March 21, 2025. The event, themed “Ramadan as a Month for Enhancing Human Quality”, was attended by the entire faculty community, including lecturers, administrative staff, outsourced workers, daily workers, and student representatives from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
The event began in the late afternoon with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. In her speech, the Dean expressed her hope that the gathering would not only serve as a moment of togetherness but also strengthen the spirit of collective work within the faculty environment.
“May what we are doing this afternoon further strengthen our bonds of friendship so that we are more motivated in carrying out our daily tasks, because we can support one another,” said Prof. Siti Murtiningsih.
The highlight of the event was a Ramadan reflection (kajian) delivered by Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum. In his sermon, he emphasized the importance of using Ramadan as a moment for self-reflection and personal improvement. Ramadan, he reminded, is not merely a month of fasting from food and drink, but also a time for enhancing spirituality, discipline, and social awareness as integral components of a well-rounded human quality.
Following the reflection session, all participants enjoyed a communal iftar meal, further strengthening the spirit of togetherness and familial bonds among members of the academic community.
This activity is part of an annual tradition held every Ramadan, particularly in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr. In addition to deepening the spiritual meaning of Ramadan, the event also serves as a space for fostering closer relationships among faculty members in a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
