In an atmosphere filled with warmth and togetherness, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Syawalan gathering for its extended academic community on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Bearing the theme “Returning to Purity, Strengthening Work Ethic”, the event marked the resumption of academic and administrative activities after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Taking place on the first working day after the break—and just a day before the start of the mid-semester examinations—the gathering served as a timely occasion to refresh motivation and reinforce unity within the faculty.
The event began with a communal meal enjoyed by all attendees, including lecturers, administrative staff, outsourced personnel, and daily workers. A warm and familial atmosphere accompanied the shared dining experience, which then transitioned into the main Syawalan program. In her opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to reunite after a full month of observing Ramadan.
“Thank you to all the lecturers and staff for being present today. We have been granted the chance to gather again after a month of fasting during Ramadan. May this post-Ramadan period bring renewed energy and may everything we have done be blessed by Allah,” said Prof. Siti Murtiningsih.
The tausiyah (religious talk) was delivered by Wuntat Wawan Sembodo, S.Ag., who encouraged all attendees to view the return to fitrah (purity) as a starting point for revitalizing work spirit and integrity. According to him, Ramadan is not only a time of spiritual reflection but also a period of personal training to cultivate stronger character and a more disciplined work ethic in daily life.
The event concluded with the traditional handshake and exchange of forgiveness among faculty members. This Syawalan was not only a moment of reconnection but also a meaningful opportunity to strengthen synergy and collective spirit in carrying out academic duties and public service within the Faculty of Philosophy UGM.
