The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again hosted the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad Indonesia program, held from September 16–26, 2025. The program was attended by 13 students from the United States, representing prestigious universities such as Brown University, Colorado College, and Seattle University. Participants came from diverse academic backgrounds, including mathematics, neuroscience, geography, arts, and economics, making the program rich in interdisciplinary perspectives.
In his remarks, Yudhistira Kazuhiro Budiono, SIT Center Director, expressed appreciation for the long-standing collaboration with UGM. “Our collaboration with UGM has been ongoing for more than a decade. Thank you for welcoming us here,” he stated.
Amid global political uncertainties, he highlighted the importance of such programs in connecting students across nations, building cultural bridges, and encouraging mutual understanding. On behalf of SIT, he extended gratitude to the UGM academic community for warmly welcoming the participants.
Meanwhile, Dr. Iva Ariani, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs at the Faculty of Philosophy, emphasized UGM’s pride in continuing to partner with SIT. “We are delighted that SIT continues to choose the Faculty of Philosophy as its partner in implementing the study abroad program. We hope you enjoy your time here,” she said.
Throughout the ten-day program, the students engaged in various academic and cultural activities designed to deepen their understanding of Indonesia. At the Faculty of Philosophy, they had the opportunity to practice gamelan and attend lectures on the history and role of Pancasila as the nation’s ideology, as well as the diversity of religions in Indonesia. Beyond campus, participants joined discussions at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), visited museums and cultural heritage sites, and practiced traditional dance.
The SIT Study Abroad Indonesia program not only introduces participants to the cultural heritage of the archipelago but also fosters cross-cultural understanding and universal human values. The presence of these international students is expected to strengthen global academic networks while affirming the role of UGM’s Faculty of Philosophy as a space for dialogue and intercultural friendship.
