The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), once again welcomed a study visit from a secondary school—this time from SMA Hang Tuah 4 Surabaya—on Wednesday (September 24) at the Persatuan Hall, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Philosophy UGM. The event took place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and was attended by 72 students and accompanying teachers.
The group was received by Dr. Heri Santoso, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, who served as the main speaker. In his presentation, Dr. Heri introduced the faculty’s profile, its historical development within UGM, and the essential role of philosophy in cultivating critical, reflective, and ethical thinking among the younger generation.
He also invited the students to view philosophy not merely as a theoretical field but as a way of life—a framework for understanding and interpreting reality. The session continued with an interactive Q&A, during which the students showed great enthusiasm, asking questions about studying at UGM, career prospects for philosophy graduates, and how to nurture critical thinking skills from an early age.
This visit was part of SMA Hang Tuah 4 Surabaya’s academic enrichment program aimed at broadening students’ horizons through university study visits and exposure to higher education environments. Through such activities, students are expected to gain insight and inspiration to pursue higher education while becoming more familiar with the academic atmosphere at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
