The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) आयोजित an orientation session for new postgraduate students on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, at the Faculty of Philosophy. The event was attended by incoming master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) students for the even semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, serving as an introduction to the academic environment, curriculum, and direction of study at the faculty.

The program opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, who expressed appreciation for the students’ decision to pursue their advanced studies at the faculty. The Dean emphasized that postgraduate study is an intellectual journey rich in shared learning experiences.

“Thank you for placing your trust in the Faculty of Philosophy as a shared home. You will embark on a journey and encounter many new insights. We will learn from one another—both from the institution and from each of you,” the Dean said.

The Dean also underscored the importance of a humanistic orientation in philosophical studies. “Together, we strive to maximize what we can contribute to humanity. The Faculty of Philosophy stands ready to accompany you on this journey, both at the master’s and doctoral levels,” she added.

She further noted that enrollment in the faculty’s master’s and doctoral programs has continued to grow, particularly following the introduction of the Fast Track pathway from undergraduate (S1) to master’s (S2) level. In the current semester, the Faculty of Philosophy admitted 15 new master’s students and 3 new doctoral students, coming from various regions across Indonesia. The cohort includes graduates from a range of institutions, both domestic and international, such as Driyarkara School of Philosophy, UGM Graduate School, and the University of Chicago.

Following the opening session, the program continued with an academic briefing delivered by Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, who introduced the orientation of postgraduate philosophical studies, including research approaches, academic traditions, and scholarly ethics that form the foundation of learning at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM.

Subsequently, the heads of study programs presented the curriculum structure, course progression, and the stages of thesis and dissertation writing. These presentations were intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the study process, enabling students to plan their academic journey effectively from the outset of the semester.

Through this orientation, the Faculty of Philosophy aims to help new students understand the academic culture, build intellectual networks, and prepare themselves to undertake postgraduate studies in a reflective, independent, and responsible manner.
