On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from SMA Negeri 1 Rogojampi, Banyuwangi Regency. A total of 330 students and 20 accompanying teachers gathered at the 1st Floor Hall to gain deeper insights into the academic world, particularly at UGM and the Faculty of Philosophy. The event featured Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., as the keynote speaker, who delivered an inspiring presentation on UGM and the role of philosophy in various aspects of life.
Dozens of students gathered at the hallway of the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Saturday (8/3) to participate in a ngisis wayang ritual, a traditional wayang preservation activity. The event began with removing wayang kulit (shadow puppets) from their storage boxes, cleaning them, and airing them out. This process is essential for wayang maintenance, preventing potential damage from natural factors such as mold, insects, and other elements that could deteriorate the puppets’ structure and intricate designs.
The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with UGM Press, has published a book titled Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity. This book is the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration involving 20 authors from various fields, spanning the social sciences, humanities, and science and technology disciplines—including philosophy, medicine, and other related fields. The book was edited by Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and Rangga Kala Mahaswa, S.Fil., M.Phil.
The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) remains committed to fostering a positive and experience-based learning ecosystem for students. This commitment is realized through a cooperation agreement with PT Hari Baik Kita, the owner of the Dua Kerbau brand and café, in managing Archipelago Café as an entrepreneurship laboratory within the Faculty of Philosophy UGM.
The agreement was signed on January 24, 2025, by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Director of PT Hari Baik Kita, Krishna Taufani Wijaya. Under this collaboration, Dua Kerbau has been granted the right to manage Archipelago Café, while still involving students as part of the management team.
Ahmad Dhani’s controversial statement during a parliamentary session regarding the naturalization of football players has drawn a response from Dr. Hastanti Widy Nugroho, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, specializing in feminism. She highlighted various problematic aspects of Dhani’s remarks, from a misunderstanding of the concept of naturalization to patriarchal and discriminatory views toward women.
During the session, Ahmad Dhani proposed that the government allocate funds for a program to naturalize senior football players from other countries and arrange their marriages with Indonesian women in hopes of producing children who could become skilled football players. According to Widy, this statement reflects Ahmad Dhani’s deeply patriarchal and discriminatory way of thinking.
The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again held a graduation ceremony in celebration of the Undergraduate Graduation for the Second Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year on Wednesday (February 26) at the Persatuan Meeting Room. In this period, the Faculty of Philosophy successfully graduated 37 students who have completed their studies.

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has once again been entrusted as the host for a series of activities within the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad Indonesia program, which took place from February 24 to 28, 2025. This program was attended by seven students from the United States who came to explore the theme “Arts, Religion, and Social Change.” Their presence at the Faculty of Philosophy, UGM, was part of a four-month program running from February 4 to May 19, 2025.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., was officially inaugurated as a Professor in the field of Philosophy of Education on Thursday (20/2). In her inaugural speech at the UGM Senate Hall, Prof. Murtiningsih offered a revolutionary perspective on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of education.
In her speech titled “Educating Humans with Machines: Philosophy of Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” Murtiningsih addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by technology in education. She emphasized that extreme approaches—either fully entrusting education to technology or completely rejecting machine involvement—are equally undesirable.
The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an orientation program for new Master’s and Doctoral students on Wednesday (5/2) in the Ketuhanan Meeting Room. In the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, the faculty welcomed 11 new students for the Master’s Program in Philosophy and 3 students for the Doctoral Program in Philosophy, who will commence their studies on February 17.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., warmly welcomed the new students and shared some words of encouragement during the orientation. “Wishing you all success in your graduate studies. Take it lightly, and with time, you will achieve your goals,” she said.
The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) celebrates a significant academic milestone with the promotion of several lecturers, including the appointment of Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. as a Professor of Philosophy of Education.
This appointment increases the number of professors at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM to four. Previously, the faculty had three professors: Prof. Dr. Lasiyo, M.A., M.M. and Prof. Drs. M. Mukhtasar, M.Hum., Ph.D. from the Department of Philosophy of Religion, as well as Prof. Dr. Armaidy Armawi, M.Si. from the Department of Eastern Philosophy. With the appointment of Prof. Siti Murtiningsih, the faculty now has its first professor in the Department of Western Philosophy.
