The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continued its Lecture Series in celebration of World Logic Day, featuring Dr. Sara L. Uckerman from Durham University, United Kingdom, as the keynote speaker. In the second session, held yesterday (6/1), Sara presented an intriguing and in-depth topic: “Fiction Writing as Philosophical Methodology.” She began by discussing philosophical methodologies in general, focusing particularly on approaches within the analytic philosophy tradition. read more

To mark the occasion, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a lecture series featuring Dr. Sara L. Uckerman from Durham University, United Kingdom, as the keynote speaker.
The lecture series commenced yesterday (7/1) with two sessions that explored fundamental and methodological aspects of logic studies. The first session, titled “History of Logic,” delved into the historical development of logic, covering its definitions, significant periods, and key figures in the discipline. The second session, “Fiction Writing as Philosophical Methodology,” examined how fiction writing can serve as an effective methodological tool for exploring and conveying philosophical arguments. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held an Alumni Gathering on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM. The event was attended by alumni from various generations, from the 1970s to the 2000s. Despite the rain, the enthusiasm and spirit of the alumni remained strong, creating a warm and familial atmosphere.
The event began with the handover of the Chairmanship of KAGAMA Philosophy from Ahmad Charis Zubair (Chairman of KAGAMA Philosophy for the 2019-2024 period) to Aryaning Arya Kresna (Chairman of KAGAMA Philosophy for the 2024-2029 period). In his remarks, Nezar Patria, the Secretary-General of the Central Board of KAGAMA and Vice Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs of Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet again. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a delegation of faculty members and students from the Master’s Program in Religious Philosophy at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Intan Lampung on Friday, December 13, 2024. The group was warmly received by the leadership of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM in the 5th-floor meeting room.
The visit marked an important milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Master’s Program in Religious Philosophy at UIN Raden Intan Lampung and the Master’s Program in Philosophy at UGM. This MoU serves as the foundation for official cooperation in the implementation of the Tridarma of Higher Education, which includes education, research, and community service. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a visit from lecturers and administrative staff from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The visit facilitated discussions and knowledge-sharing on the management of mandatory curriculum courses (MKWK), particularly Pancasila and Citizenship, as well as the implementation of the Religious Moderation and National Defense House program led by UGM’s Faculty of Philosophy.
The event opened with a welcome address by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., who expressed appreciation for ITB’s visit. She highlighted the importance of inter-university collaboration to develop educational programs that prioritize both academic excellence and a strong foundation of values for students. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) actively participated in the Community Engagement Exhibition held from December 10-12, 2024, at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center. Organized by the Directorate of Community Service at UGM, the event featured booths from faculties and work units showcasing various community service initiatives, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from across Indonesia marketing their products.
At the Faculty of Philosophy’s booth, visitors were treated to a unique collection from the Nusantara Philosophy Laboratory, educational videos on philosophy, as well as posters and booklets documenting the faculty’s community service activities conducted by lecturers across Indonesia. The booth also highlighted the contributions of students, especially through the Student Activity Bureau “Sapiens.” read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) achieved remarkable accomplishments during the 15th UGM Lustrum sports competitions. The men’s volleyball team, consisting of administrative and contract staff, secured third place after a tough semifinal match against the strong team from the Faculty of Engineering on December 5. Led by captain Suhirmawan, the team shared the third-place title with the team from UGM’s Office of Security, Safety, Emergency, and Environment (K5L).
The Faculty of Philosophy also fielded a women’s volleyball team in the competition. Despite a spirited effort, the team, captained by Sri Sutaningsih, was halted in the quarterfinals after a match against the Faculty of Economics and Business. However, Sri Sutaningsih brought pride to the faculty by winning first place in the women’s singles table tennis competition. Additionally, the Faculty of Philosophy earned second runner-up in the improver category of the line dance competition. read more
