The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) actively participated in the Community Engagement Exhibition held from December 10-12, 2024, at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center. Organized by the Directorate of Community Service at UGM, the event featured booths from faculties and work units showcasing various community service initiatives, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from across Indonesia marketing their products.

At the Faculty of Philosophy’s booth, visitors were treated to a unique collection from the Nusantara Philosophy Laboratory, educational videos on philosophy, as well as posters and booklets documenting the faculty’s community service activities conducted by lecturers across Indonesia. The booth also highlighted the contributions of students, especially through the Student Activity Bureau “Sapiens.” read more

In commemoration of World Philosophy Day, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a public lecture on Thursday, November 23, 2024, themed “Why Philosophy Matters.” The event featured Prof. Andrew Arana from the University of Lorraine, France, who discussed the concept of localism through a philosophical lens.

The lecture explored how localism, or preference for local matters, is reflected in various aspects of life, such as consumption, language, and even mathematics, and how philosophy uncovers the commonalities between these areas. With the global theme “Why Philosophy Matters?”, this event provided an important opportunity for reflection on the role of philosophy in understanding and responding to contemporary global challenges. On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from the Aqidah Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Ushuluddin at Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor. Around 70 students and accompanying lecturers from UNIDA Gontor attended the visit, which aimed to expand academic knowledge and strengthen collaboration between the two higher education institutions, particularly in the fields of philosophy and religion.

The event took place in the Persatuan Room on the third floor of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM. During the visit, the UNIDA Gontor students participated in a public lecture and interactive discussion on the intriguing topic of the relationship between religion and science and technology (saintek). read more

As part of its efforts to raise awareness and understanding regarding the prevention and handling of sexual violence within Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS UGM) organized the “Satgas PPKS Goes to Faculty” event with the theme “Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence on Campus Based on Health Promotion (HPU).” This event was held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Persatuan Room, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Philosophy, UGM. read more

A total of 144 students from the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Class of 2022, participated in a unique learning experience during a field study in Bali from November 15-19. This program invited students to explore the philosophical values embedded within the multicultural society of Bali, while enriching their understanding of the relationship between local wisdom and social harmony.

“Every year, we bring a cohort of students to learn within society, to observe how people live and interact with one another,” said Dr. Sartini, one of the faculty members accompanying the students during the field study. read more

This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) made history by admitting 167 new students for the academic year, marking the largest intake in the faculty’s history. These students were accepted through three admission pathways: the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), and the UGM Independent Selection.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., expressed pride in this achievement. “Out of the 167 new students, all of them chose the Faculty of Philosophy as their first choice. This indicates that there is a high level of interest and recognition among young people towards philosophy, and the Faculty of Philosophy UGM has become the preferred destination for those serious about pursuing philosophical studies,” she said. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again organizing the Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC), an essay-writing contest for high school students. This year’s theme, “Rethinking Philosophy and Religion in a Post-Technology World,” aligns with the 57th Anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Philosophy at UGM. The submission period began on May 1 and will end on July 20, 2024.

“This competition invites high school students to explore how philosophy and religion remain relevant, meaningful, and provide guidance in an increasingly technologized world. Participants are encouraged to develop their analytical thinking skills, writing abilities, and deepen their understanding of complex issues,” said Dr. Rr. The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) invited one of its alumni, M. Ganiswara Afif Kharisma, to share insights into the entrepreneurial world with students. During an event titled Entrepreneurship Sharing Session held on Friday (22/3) at Archipelago Café, Afif recounted his experiences in learning about entrepreneurship and starting a business at a young age.

Afif shared that his interest in becoming an entrepreneur emerged during his high school years. He began experimenting with selling goods to earn extra pocket money. However, it wasn’t until his time at UGM that he delved deeper into the world of entrepreneurship. Although he did not major in a business-related field, he gained significant knowledge through student programs and networks he built on campus. read more
