Philosophy Essay Competition 2025 Officially Opens: Participant Requirements and Submission Guidelines

Registration for the Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC) 2025 officially opened on May 10 and will continue until June 17, 2025. This competition provides a platform for students and university students across Indonesia to express their philosophical ideas in essay form. With the theme “Open Science, For Whom?”, PEC 2025 aims to raise awareness among participants about the importance of equal access to knowledge.

“As digital natives, Indonesian youth can play a key role in realizing the idea of more Open Science. The knowledge revolution can be achieved through developing alternative knowledge platforms, advocating for local knowledge which is often marginalized, and fostering awareness of epistemic justice that is frequently overlooked,” explained Faculty of Philosophy lecturer and PEC 2025 Committee Chair, Rangga Kala Mahaswa, S.Fil., M.Phil. read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM Holds National Essay Competition, Open to High School Students and University Students

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again organizing the annual Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC) 2025, now in its 14th edition. Unlike previous years, this year’s PEC expands its scope by opening participation not only to 10th and 11th grade high school students but also to active Diploma and Bachelor’s degree students across Indonesia.

PEC 2025 is part of the series of events commemorating the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, which carries the overarching theme “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized.” The main theme of PEC 2025, “Open Science, For Whom?”, invites young generations to reflect on how education should serve as a tool to liberate marginalized communities from injustice. read more

This partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM and the Rector of Unsam on Tuesday (May 6) at the Faculty of Philosophy.

The agreement outlines three key areas of collaboration: academic development, joint research and scholarly publications, and community engagement initiatives. Fast Track Program for Undergraduate–Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM Now Open

This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada officially opens registration for its new Fast Track Program, which integrates undergraduate and graduate-level studies. This accelerated program enables eligible undergraduate students to begin their master’s courses while completing their bachelor’s degree, thus offering a seamless transition into graduate studies in a related field.

The Fast Track Program is designed to prepare highly qualified and competitive graduates in a shorter time than the conventional route, while maintaining high academic standards. By joining the program, students can complete both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in five years or less. read more

Held at the Faculty’s Persatuan Room, the event focused on two main topics: the Bachelor-to-Master Fast Track Program and the strategic use of the professional platform LinkedIn.

Two speakers from the faculty leadership were present to deliver the presentations. Dr. Agus Himmawan Utomo, S.S., M.Ag., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, provided an overview of the Fast Track Program. In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Ramadan reflection and iftar gathering on Thursday, March 21, 2025. The event, themed “Ramadan as a Month for Enhancing Human Quality”, was attended by the entire faculty community, including lecturers, administrative staff, outsourced workers, daily workers, and student representatives from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

The event began in the late afternoon with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. In her speech, the Dean expressed her hope that the gathering would not only serve as a moment of togetherness but also strengthen the spirit of collective work within the faculty environment. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy and PT Hari Baik Kita Establish Collaboration for Student Entrepreneurship Development

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) remains committed to fostering a positive and experience-based learning ecosystem for students. This commitment is realized through a cooperation agreement with PT Hari Baik Kita, the owner of the Dua Kerbau brand and café, in managing Archipelago Café as an entrepreneurship laboratory within the Faculty of Philosophy UGM.

The agreement was signed on January 24, 2025, by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Director of PT Hari Baik Kita, Krishna Taufani Wijaya. Under this collaboration, Dua Kerbau has been granted the right to manage Archipelago Café, while still involving students as part of the management team. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Lecturer Criticizes Ahmad Dhani’s Statement on Football Player Naturalization

Ahmad Dhani’s controversial statement during a parliamentary session regarding the naturalization of football players has drawn a response from Dr. Hastanti Widy Nugroho, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, specializing in feminism. She highlighted various problematic aspects of Dhani’s remarks, from a misunderstanding of the concept of naturalization to patriarchal and discriminatory views toward women.

During the session, Ahmad Dhani proposed that the government allocate funds for a program to naturalize senior football players from other countries and arrange their marriages with Indonesian women in hopes of producing children who could become skilled football players. According to Widy, this statement reflects Ahmad Dhani’s deeply patriarchal and discriminatory way of thinking. read more
