UGM Faculty of Philosophy Lecturers Conduct Community Service Activities in Singkawang, West Kalimantan

This month, a team from the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), comprising lecturers and students, commenced a series of community service activities across various regions in Indonesia, including Singkawang, West Kalimantan, on June 19.

The community service activities in Singkawang focused on improving the community’s welfare through sustainable cooperative initiatives. The team organized a socialization event on cooperative formation at Al-Fattah Mosque in Nyarumkop Village, which was attended by local residents, mosque administrators, and religious study group members. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Hosts Essay Competition for High School Students

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again organizing the Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC), an essay-writing contest for high school students. This year’s theme, “Rethinking Philosophy and Religion in a Post-Technology World,” aligns with the 57th Anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Philosophy at UGM. The submission period began on May 1 and will end on July 20, 2024.

“This competition invites high school students to explore how philosophy and religion remain relevant, meaningful, and provide guidance in an increasingly technologized world. Participants are encouraged to develop their analytical thinking skills, writing abilities, and deepen their understanding of complex issues,” said Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. read more

Faculty of Philosophy’s Anniversary Highlights Philosophy and Religion in a Technologized World

This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) celebrates its 57th anniversary with the theme “Philosophy and Religion in a Technologized World.” The theme reflects the Faculty’s commitment to contributing critical and reflective thought to address the complexities of the modern world.

“We live in a world saturated with technology, where every day we are surrounded by various forms of technological advancements. This theme invites us to pause and reflect on the roles philosophy and religion can play in a world increasingly dominated by technology,” said Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, during the opening ceremony of the 57th Anniversary on Friday (17/5). read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM Establishes Collaboration with Ullen Sentalu Museum

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Director of Ullen Sentalu Javanese Art and Culture Museum, Daniel A. Haryono, signed a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions on Thursday (18/4). The agreement aims to collaborate on preserving and developing Wayang (shadow puppetry) and advancing the university’s Tri Dharma principles, particularly in academic and student activities.

“The Faculty of Philosophy is committed to exploring and preserving the values and local wisdom of the archipelago, including those embodied in Wayang. This is also a key concern of Ullen Sentalu Museum. Therefore, we believe that by leveraging each institution’s capabilities, we can achieve shared goals,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. read more

Faculty of Philosophy Welcomes Visit from President Director of Pos Indonesia

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received a visit from the President Director of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero), Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, on Friday (22/3). During his visit, he toured Archipelago Café, a co-working space and Entrepreneurship Laboratory established by the Faculty of Philosophy UGM with support from Pos Indonesia. He also engaged in discussions with the faculty leadership and greeted students participating in the Entrepreneurship Sharing Session held at the venue. read more

Faculty of Philosophy Alumni Shares Experience Starting a Business During College

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) invited one of its alumni, M. Ganiswara Afif Kharisma, to share insights into the entrepreneurial world with students. During an event titled Entrepreneurship Sharing Session held on Friday (22/3) at Archipelago Café, Afif recounted his experiences in learning about entrepreneurship and starting a business at a young age.

Afif shared that his interest in becoming an entrepreneur emerged during his high school years. He began experimenting with selling goods to earn extra pocket money. However, it wasn’t until his time at UGM that he delved deeper into the world of entrepreneurship. Although he did not major in a business-related field, he gained significant knowledge through student programs and networks he built on campus. read more

UGM Advocates for Strengthening Artificial Intelligence Governance Regulations

Indonesia’s digital economy, projected to reach 366 billion US dollars by 2030, is expected to grow exponentially. This growth hinges significantly on the strategic utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology across industries. 

However, to ensure that AI benefits society without causing harm, more robust regulatory frameworks governing its ethical and responsible use are urgently needed.

This topic took center stage at a public discussion, “The Need to Develop Artificial Intelligence Governance Regulations,” hosted at the UGM Senate Hall on Friday (Mar. 8). read more
