UGM Faculty of Philosophy Holds Communal Iftar to Welcome Ramadan

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a communal iftar gathering on Tuesday (March 3) at the faculty’s courtyard. The event brought together all members of the faculty—from students to academic and administrative staff—in a warm and convivial atmosphere.

The iftar gathering is one of the faculty’s annual traditions in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan. In addition to breaking the fast together, the event featured a religious lecture delivered by Prof. drh. Agung Budiyanto, M.P., Ph.D., a professor from UGM’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Holds Second NCD Screening Initiative, Promotes Health Awareness Among Academic Community

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held its second Integrated Development Post for Non-Communicable Diseases (Posbindu PTM) on February 13, 2026. The event followed its inaugural implementation at the end of 2025 and forms part of an ongoing effort to enhance health awareness and monitoring among the academic community.

A total of 87 participants took part in the program, marking an increase from the previous session. Participants represented a broad cross-section of the faculty, including lecturers, administrative staff, students, outsourced workers, daily staff, and canteen personnel. This wide participation reflects the faculty’s inclusive approach to fostering a culture of healthy living across the entire campus community. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy and ICT Watch Sign Partnership to Digital Literacy and AI Studies

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian ICT Partnership Association (ICT Watch) as part of the AI Literacy Summit series. The agreement was signed by ICT Watch Executive Director Indriyatno Banyumurti and the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, M.Hum., marking a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between academia and civil society.

ICT Watch is an organization that has initiated various digital literacy movements in Indonesia, including internetsehat.id. The partnership is aimed at advancing education, research, and community engagement within the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, particularly in the areas of digital literacy, technological development, and artificial intelligence (AI). read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with ICT Watch, held the AI Literacy Summit on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Hub (Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas/GIK). The event brought together academics, policymakers, and digital literacy advocates to discuss the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) for humanity, education, and society.

Executive Director of ICT Watch, Indriyatno Banyumurti, noted that since 2002 ICT Watch has been promoting positive internet use and digital literacy in Indonesia. “Together, we are building a cyberspace that is safer, more ethical, and inclusive. Technology always has both positive and negative sides, so it must be used wisely,” he said. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a workshop on Compulsory Curriculum Courses (MKWK) on February 2, 2026, at the Grand Rohan Hotel Yogyakarta. The event brought together lecturers responsible for MKWK courses as part of preparations for the upcoming academic semester.

The workshop aimed to align perspectives and enhance the quality of MKWK instruction through the development of Semester Learning Plans (RPKPS), as well as technical coordination for course implementation. During the session, lecturers discussed learning outcomes, teaching methods, and evaluation strategies to ensure that the learning process remains effective and aligned with the university’s academic standards. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted the International Model United Nations (IMUN), an international-scale United Nations simulation forum attended by high school students, university students, and graduates from various countries. The event took place over three days from January 28 to 30.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Iva Ariani, S.S., M.Hum., expressed appreciation for the presence of participants from across the globe. “Welcome to the Faculty of Philosophy. We hope that students and participants can develop a deeper understanding of how national interests can be balanced with international solidarity, while also recognizing the limits of diplomacy in navigating global power dynamics,” she said. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Holds Handover Ceremony for Faculty Leadership

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a leadership handover ceremony alongside its Workshop on Organizational Structure and Governance (SOTK) on January 22–23, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta. The event included the formal transition of leadership for the Departments of Philosophy of Religion, Western Philosophy, and Eastern Philosophy.

Dr. Ridwan Ahmad Sukri, S.S., M.Hum., was officially appointed Head of the Department of Philosophy of Religion for the 2026–2031 term, succeeding Prof. Dr. Lasiyo, M.A., M.M. Meanwhile, Dr. Sonjoruri Budiani Trisakti, M.A., was named Acting Head of the Department of Western Philosophy for the 2026–2028 period, replacing Dr. Supartiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and Dr. M. Rodinal Khair Khasri, S.Fil., M.Phil., was appointed Acting Head of the Department of Eastern Philosophy for the same term, succeeding Dr. Sartini, M.Hum. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Workshop Discusses Direction of UGM 2026 Curriculum

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continued its Workshop on Organizational Structure and Governance (SOTK) and Curriculum with a dedicated session on curriculum development held on Thursday (Jan. 22) at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta. The session focused on outlining the direction and policy framework of the UGM 2026 Curriculum as a reference for curriculum development at the faculty and study program levels.

The session featured the Secretary of UGM’s Directorate of Education and Teaching, Dr. Sigit Priyanta, S.Si., M.Kom., as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he explained that the UGM 2026 Curriculum Structure introduces several significant changes, particularly at the undergraduate (S1) level, along with adjustments at the master’s (S2) level concerning credit requirements and duration of study. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a workshop on Organizational Structure and Governance (SOTK) and Curriculum on January 22–23, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta. The event formed part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and strengthen organizational governance and academic systems in line with evolving policy frameworks and institutional needs.

The first day of the workshop, Thursday (Jan. 22), focused on SOTK and Lecturer Performance Incentives (IKD). Discussion on “AI for Media and Journalists”: Ethical and Practical Implications for the Press and Education

As part of the Philosophy Book Fair 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a discussion entitled “AI for Media, AI for Journalists” on Friday, 31 October 2025. The event featured three speakers: Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM; Eko S. Putro, Director of Pandangan Jogja; and Haris Firdaus, Head of the Central Java–Yogyakarta Bureau of Kompas.

In her opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy raised ethical concerns arising from the use of artificial intelligence in newsrooms. She questioned the increasingly blurred boundary between human-produced and machine-generated work, and described a scenario in which a newsroom produces news automatically, without human reporting. “Imagine a situation close to a deadline where a machine merely aligns a script and uploads it. When such content is reproduced continuously and accepted by the public as knowledge, what kinds of problems will emerge?” she asked. read more
