The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again organizing the annual Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC) 2025, now in its 14th edition. Unlike previous years, this year’s PEC expands its scope by opening participation not only to 10th and 11th grade high school students but also to active Diploma and Bachelor’s degree students across Indonesia.

PEC 2025 is part of the series of events commemorating the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, which carries the overarching theme “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized.” The main theme of PEC 2025, “Open Science, For Whom?”, invites young generations to reflect on how education should serve as a tool to liberate marginalized communities from injustice. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has established a strategic partnership with Universitas Samudra (Unsam) to strengthen cooperation in the three core pillars of higher education in Indonesia: education, research and publication, and community service. In an atmosphere filled with warmth and togetherness, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Syawalan gathering for its extended academic community on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Bearing the theme “Returning to Purity, Strengthening Work Ethic”, the event marked the resumption of academic and administrative activities after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Taking place on the first working day after the break—and just a day before the start of the mid-semester examinations—the gathering served as a timely occasion to refresh motivation and reinforce unity within the faculty. read more

In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Ramadan reflection and iftar gathering on Thursday, March 21, 2025. The event, themed “Ramadan as a Month for Enhancing Human Quality”, was attended by the entire faculty community, including lecturers, administrative staff, outsourced workers, daily workers, and student representatives from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

The event began in the late afternoon with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. One of the student activity bureaus at the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), namely the Biro Pers Mahasiswa Filsafat (BPMF) Pijar, collaborated with several student press organizations from other faculties to hold a joint training session on Saturday (March 14) at the Persatuan Meeting Room, Faculty of Philosophy. The training focused on the topic “Hard News and In-Depth Writing Methods”, delivered by Muhammad Iqbal, Editor-in-Chief of BPMF Pijar.

Participants in the training came from four student press organizations within the social humanities cluster: BPMF Pijar, Badan Penerbitan dan Pers Mahasiswa (BPPM) Equilibrium from the Faculty of Economics and Business, BPPM Mahkamah from the Faculty of Law, and Lembaga Pers dan Penerbitan Mahasiswa (LPPM) Sintesa from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. read more

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, a total of 300 students and accompanying teachers from SMA Negeri 1 Waringin Kurung, Banten, visited the Faculty of Philosophy UGM for an inspiring discussion session held at the 1st Floor Hall.

The event featured Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Dr. Rizal elaborated on UGM’s rich history as one of Indonesia’s oldest and most prestigious universities and its crucial role in shaping outstanding individuals who contribute to the nation. Dozens of students gathered at the hallway of the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Saturday (8/3) to participate in a ngisis wayang ritual, a traditional wayang preservation activity. The event began with removing wayang kulit (shadow puppets) from their storage boxes, cleaning them, and airing them out. This process is essential for wayang maintenance, preventing potential damage from natural factors such as mold, insects, and other elements that could deteriorate the puppets’ structure and intricate designs. read more
