Faculty of Philosophy UGM and Globethics Establish Collaboration on Ethics Studies and Research

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the international organization Globethics have established a collaborative partnership to develop studies and research in ethics. This collaboration was formalized through the signing of a cooperation agreement by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Vice President of Globethics and founder of YADEMA, Dicky Sofjan, Ph.D.

The agreement encompasses a broad range of activities, including joint research projects, publications, short training programs, seminars, and public lectures. Beyond academic initiatives, the collaboration also extends to community engagement programs and student exchange opportunities, all of which are designed to strengthen the study and application of ethics. read more

Faculty of Philosophy Welcomes a Visit from SMA Negeri 1 Waringin Kurung, Banten

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again opened its doors to young generations eager to explore the academic world and philosophy. On Thursday, February 13, 2025, a total of 300 students and accompanying teachers from SMA Negeri 1 Waringin Kurung, Banten, visited the Faculty of Philosophy UGM for an inspiring discussion session held at the 1st Floor Hall.

The event featured Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Dr. Rizal elaborated on UGM’s rich history as one of Indonesia’s oldest and most prestigious universities and its crucial role in shaping outstanding individuals who contribute to the nation. He also highlighted UGM’s academic excellence, the various study programs it offers, and the admission pathways available for prospective students across Indonesia. read more

SMA Negeri 1 Rogojampi Banyuwangi Visits the Faculty of Philosophy UGM

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from SMA Negeri 1 Rogojampi, Banyuwangi Regency. A total of 330 students and 20 accompanying teachers gathered at the 1st Floor Hall to gain deeper insights into the academic world, particularly at UGM and the Faculty of Philosophy. The event featured Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., as the keynote speaker, who delivered an inspiring presentation on UGM and the role of philosophy in various aspects of life. read more

Philosophy and Cultural Sciences Students at UGM Hold Wayang Preservation Event

Dozens of students gathered at the hallway of the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Saturday (8/3) to participate in a ngisis wayang ritual, a traditional wayang preservation activity. The event began with removing wayang kulit (shadow puppets) from their storage boxes, cleaning them, and airing them out. This process is essential for wayang maintenance, preventing potential damage from natural factors such as mold, insects, and other elements that could deteriorate the puppets’ structure and intricate designs. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy and UGM Press Publish the Book Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with UGM Press, has published a book titled Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity. This book is the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration involving 20 authors from various fields, spanning the social sciences, humanities, and science and technology disciplines—including philosophy, medicine, and other related fields. American Students Learn About Religion and Culture at the Faculty of Philosophy, UGM

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has once again been entrusted as the host for a series of activities within the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad Indonesia program, which took place from February 24 to 28, 2025. This program was attended by seven students from the United States who came to explore the theme “Arts, Religion, and Social Change.” Their presence at the Faculty of Philosophy, UGM, was part of a four-month program running from February 4 to May 19, 2025. read more

Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Inaugurated as Professor, Highlights Human-Machine Synergy in Digital Era Education

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., was officially inaugurated as a Professor in the field of Philosophy of Education on Thursday (20/2). In her inaugural speech at the UGM Senate Hall, Prof. Murtiningsih offered a revolutionary perspective on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of education.

In her speech titled “Educating Humans with Machines: Philosophy of Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” Murtiningsih addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by technology in education. She emphasized that extreme approaches—either fully entrusting education to technology or completely rejecting machine involvement—are equally undesirable. read more

Welcoming the New Academic Year: Graduate Students of the Faculty of Philosophy Participate in Orientation Program

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an orientation program for new Master’s and Doctoral students on Wednesday (5/2) in the Ketuhanan Meeting Room. In the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, the faculty welcomed 11 new students for the Master’s Program in Philosophy and 3 students for the Doctoral Program in Philosophy, who will commence their studies on February 17.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., warmly welcomed the new students and shared some words of encouragement during the orientation. “Wishing you all success in your graduate studies. Take it lightly, and with time, you will achieve your goals,” she said. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Welcomes a New Professor

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) celebrates a significant academic milestone with the promotion of several lecturers, including the appointment of Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. as a Professor of Philosophy of Education.

This appointment increases the number of professors at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM to four. Previously, the faculty had three professors: Prof. Dr. Lasiyo, M.A., M.M. and Prof. Drs. M. Mukhtasar, M.Hum., Ph.D. from the Department of Philosophy of Religion, as well as Prof. Dr. Armaidy Armawi, M.Si. from the Department of Eastern Philosophy. With the appointment of Prof. Siti Murtiningsih, the faculty now has its first professor in the Department of Western Philosophy. read more

Students from SMA Muhammadiyah 10 Surabaya and MAN 1 Bekasi Enthusiastically Participate in Visit to the Faculty of Philosophy UGM

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed another academic visit from high school students on Tuesday, January 21. A total of 308 students and accompanying teachers from SMA Muhammadiyah 10 Surabaya and MAN 1 Bekasi attended the event at the 1st Floor Selasar, eager to learn more about UGM and the Faculty of Philosophy.

Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., the speaker for the session, began by presenting the history of UGM as a national university with a strategic role in national development. He also highlighted various advantages of UGM, ranging from academic quality to its extensive alumni network. Additionally, he discussed the university’s student admission pathways, including the national selection and independent pathways, which sparked the students’ interest. read more
