Faculty of Philosophy UGM Conducts Summer Course in Ethics and Applied Philosophy

Faculty of Philosophy UGM has conducted Summer Course on Contemporary Issues on Ethics and Applied Philosophy from 3-10 November 2019. As many as 18 students from Australia, Timor Leste, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, the Middle East, and Africa participated in the Summer Course in addition to 6 students from UGM.

The participants took part in courses related to ideology, politics, democracy, and other issues. On Monday (11/4), Prof. Mukhtasar Syamsuddin, Ph.D., gave a lecture themed Pancasila as Ethical Foundation for Political Judgment. read more

SIT Study Abroad September 16, 2019

The Office of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad organizes routine activities starting in 2009. The program is held every February and September. This program aims to introduce Indonesian Philosophy to US students. Through this program, US students will learn about Pancasila, local wisdom, culture, religion, art and also Indonesian language.

On September 16-27, 2019 there were 11 students from 11 colleges in the United States namely University of Denver, Tuffts University, Cornell College, Occidental College, Muhlenberg College, Wittman College, University of Denver, Skidmore College, University of Redlands ,Beloit College, and Gettysburg College. read more

Summer Course on Contemporary Issues on Ethics and Applied Philosophy

With the persistence of the pressing and emerging problems in the arena of politics and public policies, questions of the roles of ethics and applied philosophy are matters of great import and urgency. Contemporary issues related to the ethical and philosophical values underlying politics and public policies may cover but not limited to protections of minority groups in democracies, political legitimacies in post-truth society, practices of leadership in delivering public welfares, women rights and the rights of disabled and disadvantaged people, states and international communities’ roles in mitigating the gap between the richest and the poorest, institutionalization of civil and political rights and attempts by many leaders to forge national identity and to explore the foundational political principles better apply to the lives of their societies. read more

Institute for Ethics and Applied Philosophy held the first monthly discussion

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada established a research institution on applied ethics and philosophy which was named the Institute for Ethics and Applied Philosophy. The Institute for Ethics and Applied Philosophy held its first monthly discussion on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. This monthly discussion carried the theme “Ethics of the Use of Human Subjects in Humanities Social Research”. This discussion, presented by a keynote speaker, a lecturer at the UGM FKKMK namely Prof. Dra. RA. Yayi Suryo Prabandari, M.Sc., Ph.D discussed research, ethical principles, ethical research, explanation and agreement and the category of ethical permits. read more

American Students Visit to Faculty of Philosophy with SIT Abroad Cooperation Program

On February 11 February 2019 there were 19 students from 18 colleges in the United States namely Saint Michael’s College, Cornell University, Knox College, Barnard College, Lewis and Clark College, University of Colorado Boulder, Duke University, Gettysberg College, Hamilton College, Elon University, Macalester College, Skidmore College, Tufts University, Emory University, Colgate College, Bates College, Georgia College and State University, and University of the South. read more
