UGM Faculty of Philosophy and ICT Watch Sign Partnership to Digital Literacy and AI Studies

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian ICT Partnership Association (ICT Watch) as part of the AI Literacy Summit series. The agreement was signed by ICT Watch Executive Director Indriyatno Banyumurti and the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, M.Hum., marking a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between academia and civil society.

ICT Watch is an organization that has initiated various digital literacy movements in Indonesia, including internetsehat.id. The partnership is aimed at advancing education, research, and community engagement within the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, particularly in the areas of digital literacy, technological development, and artificial intelligence (AI). read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Holds MKWK Workshop to Prepare for Upcoming Semester

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a workshop on Compulsory Curriculum Courses (MKWK) on February 2, 2026, at the Grand Rohan Hotel Yogyakarta. The event brought together lecturers responsible for MKWK courses as part of preparations for the upcoming academic semester.

The workshop aimed to align perspectives and enhance the quality of MKWK instruction through the development of Semester Learning Plans (RPKPS), as well as technical coordination for course implementation. During the session, lecturers discussed learning outcomes, teaching methods, and evaluation strategies to ensure that the learning process remains effective and aligned with the university’s academic standards. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Hosts International Model United Nations

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted the International Model United Nations (IMUN), an international-scale United Nations simulation forum attended by high school students, university students, and graduates from various countries. The event took place over three days from January 28 to 30.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Iva Ariani, S.S., M.Hum., expressed appreciation for the presence of participants from across the globe. “Welcome to the Faculty of Philosophy. We hope that students and participants can develop a deeper understanding of how national interests can be balanced with international solidarity, while also recognizing the limits of diplomacy in navigating global power dynamics,” she said. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Welcomes Visit from SMAN 17 Palembang

The Faculty of Philosophy of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from SMAN 17 Palembang on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, held at the Persatuan Room, 3rd Floor. The activity, which began at 9:00 a.m., continued until midday and was attended by 82 students accompanied by 8 teachers. The visit formed part of the school’s study program aimed at introducing higher education to final-year students as they prepare for their future academic paths.

In its welcoming remarks, the faculty expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm shown by the delegation from SMAN 17 Palembang. According to the faculty representative, such visits provide an important opportunity to broaden young people’s understanding of philosophy as a discipline that plays a strategic role in cultivating critical and ethical modes of thinking. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Participates as an Exhibitor at Global EduFair 2025 at GIK UGM

The Faculty of Philosophy of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) took part as an exhibitor at the Global EduFair (GEF) held on 6 November 2025 at the Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) UGM. This participation formed part of the faculty’s efforts to broaden access to information about philosophical education and to introduce the relevance of philosophy studies to younger generations.

Global EduFair is one of GIK UGM’s initiatives that emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the development of progressive ideas in higher education. Recognized as the first education fair organized by a higher education institution with an international scope, GEF offers a unique combination of a university exhibition and skills development activities through partnerships with various professional organizations. read more

Book and Culture Discussion: Rereading Nusantara’s Collective Memory with Taufik Rahzen and Aguk Irawan

On Thursday, 30 October 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy held a Book and Culture Discussion featuring cultural thinker Taufik Rahzen and writer Aguk Irawan. The event offered a renewed reflection on the role of books, scripts, and literary traditions as custodians of Nusantara’s collective memory, as well as arenas of cultural contestation amid the rapid expansion of digital culture.

In his presentation, Taufik Rahzen invited the audience to revisit the significance of ancient inscriptions as key markers in the course of Indonesian civilization. He referred to the Kutai Yupa, the Tugu Inscription, and various other inscriptions not merely as administrative records, but as “cosmological codes that record the long cycles of Nusantara’s history.” read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Holds National Symposium on Decoloniality and the Future of Nusantara Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held the 2025 National Symposium on Nusantara Philosophy under the theme “Decoloniality, Epistemic Justice, and the Future of Nusantara Philosophy” on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, at the Persatuan Conference Room, Faculty of Philosophy UGM. The symposium served as an important forum for academics, researchers, and scholars of philosophy to discuss the future direction of Nusantara philosophy amid global challenges.

The symposium is a regular academic agenda organized by the Laboratory of Nusantara Philosophy (Lafinus). In her opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., emphasized that discussions on Nusantara have often remained influenced by Western perspectives. “When we speak about Nusantara, the perspective is almost always Western. Amid the dynamic tensions within it, decoloniality and epistemic justice become compelling themes for further discussion,” she stated. read more

Book Discussion “Saya, Jawa, dan Islam”: Tracing the Inner Struggle between Javanese Identity and Islam

As part of the Philosophy Book Fair and the National Symposium on Nusantara Philosophy, the Faculty of Philosophy of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a book discussion on Saya, Jawa, dan Islam by Irfan Afifi on Monday (27/10) at the Faculty of Philosophy’s Selasar. The event featured the author himself as the main speaker, with Fahri Jundi serving as the respondent.

Saya, Jawa, dan Islam is Irfan Afifi’s debut book. The writings compiled in the volume reflect the author’s ongoing inner and reflective struggle to understand himself and his existence as a Javanese individual who practices Islam. Although the book was not initially conceived as a single, unified work, it ultimately reveals a coherent intellectual and spiritual journey shaped by the author’s prolonged contemplation. read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM Welcomes Visits from ISFIT Timor Leste and the University of Melbourne

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed visits from two international educational institutions — the Instituto Superior de Filosofia e Teologia (ISFIT), Timor Leste, and the University of Melbourne, Australia — on September 30. The two meetings, held separately on the same day, explored various opportunities for academic collaboration in the fields of education, research, and international scholarly development.

The meeting with representatives from ISFIT Timor Leste was part of the ongoing partnership between the two institutions, which had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). UGM and Universitas Brawijaya Forge Partnership to Strengthen Learning Development

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Universitas Brawijaya (UB) to strengthen institutional functions in the areas of learning, education, and professional training under the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) framework, as well as the management of learning systems. The signing ceremony took place on Friday (October 10) in the Ketuhanan Meeting Room, Faculty of Philosophy UGM.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, and Muh. Anas, Head of the UPT for Religious Guidance and Character Development at Universitas Brawijaya. The event was witnessed by members of the faculty leadership and representatives from both institutions. read more
