The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a book discussion on The Constitution of Science by Chrysostomos Mantzavinos, professor at the University of Athens, via Zoom on September 12.

The event featured the author himself as the main speaker, with Risalatul Hukmi serving as the respondent who offered a critical review of the book, published by Cambridge University Press in late 2024.

Faculty of Philosophy Hosts School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again hosted the School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad Indonesia program, held from September 16–26, 2025. The program was attended by 13 students from the United States, representing prestigious universities such as Brown University, Colorado College, and Seattle University. Participants came from diverse academic backgrounds, including mathematics, neuroscience, geography, arts, and economics, making the program rich in interdisciplinary perspectives. read more

Faculty of Philosophy and UNUGHA Cilacap Held ToT Program

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Al-Ghazali (UNUGHA) Cilacap, held a Training of Trainer (ToT) program on Coaching for Building a Free Spirit on Wednesday (Sept 24) in Cilacap.

In his introduction, Drs. Imam Wahyudi, M.Hum., emphasized the importance of developing coaching methods that are not solely rooted in Western paradigms, but also grounded in Nusantara intellectual heritage and Islamic traditions. The concept was initiated by Dr. Heri Santoso, who encouraged participants to take a path of olah rasa (refining inner sensitivity) through a balance of intellectual reflection and spiritual experience. read more

Wayang Symposium at the Faculty of Philosophy Discusses the Urgency of Intellectual Property Protection for Wayang Arts and Puppetry

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Indonesian National Wayang Secretariat (Senawangi) and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, held a Sarasehan Wayang (Wayang Symposium) on August 22 under the theme “The Urgency of Intellectual Property Protection for Wayang Arts and/or Puppetry.” The event, attended by artists, academics, students, and the public, served as an important forum to discuss the protection of the nation’s esteemed cultural heritage in the face of modern challenges. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy Welcomes Parents of New Students

The Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a Parents’ Reception for New Students on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Faculty’s Hall. This event served as an important occasion to welcome the “young philosophers”—a term for the new students—and to strengthen collaboration between the faculty and parents in supporting the students’ educational journey.

The program followed a similar university-level event earlier that morning at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM. Parents and guardians were then directed to their respective faculties for sessions that introduced them more closely to the academic environment where their children will study and grow. read more

47 Communities and 27 MSMEs Enliven Karawitan Festival and Nusantara Bazaar at UGM Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again held the Karawitan Festival and Nusantara Bazaar on July 19–20, 2025, as part of its 58th Anniversary celebration. This year, 47 karawitan groups took part, making the festival not only a lively cultural event but also an inclusive one, involving participants across generations—from children, teenagers, adults, to the elderly.

Of the 47 groups, 23 came from within UGM, including lecturers, educational staff, students, and Dharma Wanita. Meanwhile, 24 other groups represented communities outside the university, ranging from government institutions, local community groups, to general society. Some even came from outside Yogyakarta, such as the karawitan group KAGAMA, whose members are spread across various regions. read more

UGM Faculty of Philosophy and Globethics Hold FGD on Ethics in Higher Education

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Globethics and the Dharma Etika Madani Foundation (YADEMA), organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled Ethics in Higher Education from June 10–13, 2025.

The FGD featured Meggy Kantert, an expert from Globethics with extensive experience in ethics education and responsible leadership at the international level. She led a series of intensive discussions and workshops with UGM lecturers and stakeholders to develop a framework module on Ethics in Higher Education, designed specifically for educators in higher education institutions. read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM and Universitas Samudra Establish Collaboration on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has established a strategic partnership with Universitas Samudra (Unsam) to strengthen cooperation in the three core pillars of higher education in Indonesia: education, research and publication, and community service. This partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM and the Rector of Unsam on Tuesday (May 6) at the Faculty of Philosophy.

The agreement outlines three key areas of collaboration: academic development, joint research and scholarly publications, and community engagement initiatives. The partnership aims to enhance academic synergy between institutions, improve the quality of higher education, and expand the social impact of academia in Indonesian society. read more

BPMF Pijar and UGM Social Humanities Student Press Organizations Hold Joint Training Session

One of the student activity bureaus at the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), namely the Biro Pers Mahasiswa Filsafat (BPMF) Pijar, collaborated with several student press organizations from other faculties to hold a joint training session on Saturday (March 14) at the Persatuan Meeting Room, Faculty of Philosophy. The training focused on the topic “Hard News and In-Depth Writing Methods”, delivered by Muhammad Iqbal, Editor-in-Chief of BPMF Pijar.

Participants in the training came from four student press organizations within the social humanities cluster: BPMF Pijar, Badan Penerbitan dan Pers Mahasiswa (BPPM) Equilibrium from the Faculty of Economics and Business, BPPM Mahkamah from the Faculty of Law, and Lembaga Pers dan Penerbitan Mahasiswa (LPPM) Sintesa from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. read more
