Chess Competition Opens Philosophy Sports Week 2025

The series of events celebrating the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy has begun. The chess competition, which for the first time this year is included as part of the Philosophy Sports Week, was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, at the Corridor of Building B, Faculty of Philosophy.

A total of 12 participants took part, consisting of 10 students and 2 administrative staff. They competed in a game that demands concentration and careful calculation. This event was not only a competition but also a means to strengthen relationships among different elements within the faculty. read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM Holds National Essay Competition, Open to High School Students and University Students

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again organizing the annual Philosophy Essay Competition (PEC) 2025, now in its 14th edition. Unlike previous years, this year’s PEC expands its scope by opening participation not only to 10th and 11th grade high school students but also to active Diploma and Bachelor’s degree students across Indonesia.

PEC 2025 is part of the series of events commemorating the 58th Anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, which carries the overarching theme “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized.” The main theme of PEC 2025, “Open Science, For Whom?”, invites young generations to reflect on how education should serve as a tool to liberate marginalized communities from injustice. read more

This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) commemorates its 58th anniversary, marking nearly six decades of contributions to philosophical thought and scholarly development for society, the nation, and civilization. The celebration carries the theme “Open Science: Democratizing Knowledge, Empowering the Marginalized”, offering a reflective moment to explore the role of philosophy in advancing epistemic justice and promoting open access to knowledge.

“This theme emphasizes the importance of the open science movement as an effort to make scientific knowledge more inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all,” said Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., on Tuesday (May 6). read more

Fast Track Program for Undergraduate–Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM Now Open

This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada officially opens registration for its new Fast Track Program, which integrates undergraduate and graduate-level studies. This accelerated program enables eligible undergraduate students to begin their master’s courses while completing their bachelor’s degree, thus offering a seamless transition into graduate studies in a related field.

The Fast Track Program is designed to prepare highly qualified and competitive graduates in a shorter time than the conventional route, while maintaining high academic standards. By joining the program, students can complete both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in five years or less. read more

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a socialization event for two key programs aimed at supporting students’ academic development and career readiness on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Held at the Faculty’s Persatuan Room, the event focused on two main topics: the Bachelor-to-Master Fast Track Program and the strategic use of the professional platform LinkedIn.

Two speakers from the faculty leadership were present to deliver the presentations. Dr. Agus Himmawan Utomo, S.S., M.Ag., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, provided an overview of the Fast Track Program. Meanwhile, Dr. Iva Ariani, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Alumni, spoke on the importance of developing a professional student profile through LinkedIn. read more

In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Faculty of Philosophy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Ramadan reflection and iftar gathering on Thursday, March 21, 2025. The event, themed “Ramadan as a Month for Enhancing Human Quality”, was attended by the entire faculty community, including lecturers, administrative staff, outsourced workers, daily workers, and student representatives from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.

The event began in the late afternoon with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum. In her speech, the Dean expressed her hope that the gathering would not only serve as a moment of togetherness but also strengthen the spirit of collective work within the faculty environment. read more

Faculty of Philosophy UGM and Globethics Establish Collaboration on Ethics Studies and Research

The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the international organization Globethics have established a collaborative partnership to develop studies and research in ethics. This collaboration was formalized through the signing of a cooperation agreement by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Rr. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., and the Vice President of Globethics and founder of YADEMA, Dicky Sofjan, Ph.D.

The agreement encompasses a broad range of activities, including joint research projects, publications, short training programs, seminars, and public lectures. Beyond academic initiatives, the collaboration also extends to community engagement programs and student exchange opportunities, all of which are designed to strengthen the study and application of ethics. read more

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, a total of 300 students and accompanying teachers from SMA Negeri 1 Waringin Kurung, Banten, visited the Faculty of Philosophy UGM for an inspiring discussion session held at the 1st Floor Hall.

The event featured Dr. Rizal Mustansyir, M.Hum., as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Dr. Rizal elaborated on UGM’s rich history as one of Indonesia’s oldest and most prestigious universities and its crucial role in shaping outstanding individuals who contribute to the nation.
